The Day After Trinity
The Day After Trinity presents
a riveting profile of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the mysterious and charismatic
father of the atomic bomb. It tells the gripping story of this brilliant
physicist - a sensitive student of poetry, philosophy, and radical
politics - and how he was recruited by our government to produce a
new weapon
against facist Germany. The film traces Oppenheimer's life from his
childhood through his inspiring orchestration of the Manhattan Project
to his last
years of bitter disgrace. Interviews with articulate colleagues and
their families are intercut with stills and previously unseen footage
of the
bomb and its aftermath. Superb, haunting, thoughtful, The Day After
Trinity heightens awareness of the origins of the modern world. Producer
Jon Elise is a MacArthur Fellow and received a five-year unrestricted
grant for his outstanding work as a documentary filmmaker.
