Costa Rica: Paradise Reclaimed
For over 15 years biologist Dan Janzen
has labored to recreate an ecosystem. The tropical dry forests of Central
Amerca have shrunk to less than two percent of their former size. Originally
home to thousands of species of plants and animals, these forests have
been converted to farms and ranches. The film shows Janzen's ceaseless
efforts to save the ecosystem: educating the local people to an appreciation
of the forest, recruiting Costa Ricans as game wardens and park managers,
teaching biology students, and appealing before the United Nations. Costa
Rica gives glimpes of many exotic animals, presents fascinating information
about complex inter-species relations, and offers hope that this rich
world may yet be saved.
