Can't Afford to Grow Old

This video's powerful and timely theme is relevant to current public policy, focusing on whether long-term care should be paid for by individuals or the government. Its analysis of the impact of aging on our strained health care system combines personal experiences with informed testimony by lawmakers and public policy experts. This film also features several families who want to keep older members at home, but are facing severe financial difficulties with few viable solutions. The central message is for the aged to maintain both health and wealth in order to guarantee all the familiar comforts of home. Two innovative programs, one publicly funded and the other private, provide optimal alternatives for the elderly population. As Americans age, the increased challenges depicted here clearly help to place these issues in a more urgent perspective.
