Elder Abuse

Elder Abuse examines how older adults are preyed upon for money, food, social security checks, credit ratings, and shelter. Abuse towards the elderly harbors many forms and can occur in varying degrees, and multiple forms can appear together. By providing detailed definitions of neglect, financial, physical, and emotional abuse, viewers become educated to recognize signs that denote potentially abusive situations. A significant portion of this program is dedicated to identifying and explaining fiduciary exploitation: the most difficult type of elder abuse to understand because the problem involves complex determinations. The California Commission on Peace Officer and Standards and Training created this program to educate police officers, judges, and lawyers in their state. The program illustrates various forms of abuse. This video contains relevant, detailed information that will assist viewers in identifying an abusive situation, approaching the victim, recognizing a potential abuser, and legal definitions and ramifications.
