Grace

Grace chronicles ten years in the life of Grace Kirkland, a victim of Alzheimer's disease, and her husband, Glenn. More than just a documentary centering on the hardships of the disease, it is also a love story as Glenn patiently cares for Grace at home: dressing her, painting her fingernails, or playing a game of tic-tac-toe. We see and hear the frustration Grace experiences in the early stages. As the disease progresses and Grace becomes more incapacitated, the pleasures the couple are able to enjoy become simpler and more poignant. Blowing bubbles with their grandchildren and singing old songs become precious memories to her husband because the day comes when Grace no longer speaks nor remembers her grandsons. Glenn speaks about his feelings through this ten-year illness and how his concepts of love, worth, and accomplishment have changed over the years. The Emmy Award-winning producers spent years with the couple to create this very personal portrait.
