Just for the Summer

Just for the Summer is an educational film created to inform young people about Alzheimer's disease. Life is pretty ordinary for Philip, who loves track and spending time with his friends from high school. However, things begin to change when his grandmother comes to live with Philip and his parents because she is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. As Gram's health deteriorates, Philip must miss track practice to help care for her. Embarrassed, angry, sad, and unable to express his feelings, Philip becomes isolated from his friends, and the stress takes an emotional toll on his parents. Only by drawing on his memories of Gram before the disease, can he work through his confused feelings and allow himself to be compassionate and understanding. Finally, in an oral report for one of his classes, Philip is able to break free from his isolation, and speak openly about Alzheimer's, his Gram, and the new perspectives he has gained. (Appropriate for younger viewers)
