Loners on Wheels

Loners on Wheels documents the life of a year round, singles-only, RV club, with a membership of over 4,000 older adults. Following the guidelines of "freedom, friends, and fellowship," Edith Lane created this club over twenty-five years ago because she was tired of being the only single traveler among couples. Director Susan Morosoli spent three years recording the Loners' trips around the California Mojave Desert. Interviews laced with experiences and memories disclose touching portraits of daily life from several adventurous members of this club. The film features eighty-eight-year-old Duchess Grubb, the matriarch of the community, who personifies The Loners on Wheels philosophy of living with laughter, friendship, courage, and independence. Defying the stereotype of seniors as outcasts, this film shows elders filled with energy, activity, and youthful spirits despite an average club member age of seventy.
