Tao of the Dumpster
This provocative video portrays
a sixty-six year-old man who lives off of the contents of dumpsters. Questioning
the morality and the rationality of this lifestyle is the man's son, shown
frustrated with the philosophical discussions his father and he have about
property, time, and personal responsibility. David Lindstrom films his
father as he rummages through a dumpster, and viewers watch as a meal
is assembled, complete with caviar. Exclaiming that he has never before
enjoyed this delicacy, his father digs into his discovery with relish.
Stating eloquently that so much in life is wasted, he appears content
and peaceful with the path his life has taken. Opening doors to the past
allows Lindstrom to trace the development of his father's unusual philosophies,
but this seems to do little for Lindstrom's own peace of mind.
