A Thousand Tomorrows: Intimacy, Sexuality & Alzheimer's

This sensitive production uses candid interviews with several Alzheimer's disease patients and their spousal caregivers to examine a number of issues surrounding how the disease affects intimacy and sexuality. This informative video delves into such topics as the blurring roles between caregiver and intimate partner, the changes in behavior that affect intimacy between the partners, and the mismatch of sexual desire and attraction. Emphasizing that each individual's desires are affected differently by this disease, and that those feelings may change as the disease progresses, spouses speak openly about the fluctuating emotions they experience. Although some spouses confess to extremely negative emotions surrounding sexuality, others speak of a newfound intimacy that has developed. This video opens up sensitive and sometimes taboo issues surrounding intimacy, sexuality, and Alzheimer's so that the caregiver spouses realize they are not alone in their feelings.
