Tibor Jankay:
The Art of Survival

This delightful production is a profile of the inspirational ninety-four year-old artist Tibor Jankay. Born in Hungary, Jankay studied art at the finest schools in Budapest and Paris until World War II, when he was sent to a work camp. Escaping from a train traveling to Auschwitz, Jankay used his artistic talents to ward off hunger during his time as a fugitive. Despite the terrible trials, he was willing to start life anew. Settling in Venice, California, he painted joyful images celebrating life and hope. Running through his story line is the abiding love Jankay shares with his wife, with whom he was miraculously reunited after the war. After her death, he began to mentor emerging and established artists in the community, inspiring them with his stories of survival. His home is filled with paintings and sculptures that portray images of love and beauty. This remarkable man comments on his life, joys and philosophy of forgiveness.
