Troublesome Creek:
A Midwestern
In Troublesome Creek: A Midwestern,
married filmmakers Jeanne Jordan and Steven Ascher depict the story of
Jeanne's seventy-year-old parents as they face foreclosure of their Iowa
farm in the midst of an economic crisis of the 1990's. As change threatens
to destroy their way of life forever, they face the challenges with courage
and laughter. The film traces the family's experiences as they auction
off all of their possessions to pay off their sizable bank debt and save
their land. Watching the family sort through decades of accumulated antiques,
collections, machinery, and memories, serves as a testimonial to the deep
ties this family has, both to each other and to the land that they have
lived on for over a century. This Academy Award nominated film is about
history, loss, and the characters that settled America.
