Night of the Hunter

In this eerie meditation on good and evil, a psychotic preacher relentlessly hunts two small children across the Depression Era Bible Belt to get at their dead father's stolen fortune. In Robert Mitchum plays Preacher Harry Powell, who wears unforgettable tattoos of two four-letter words on his fingers: LOVE and HATE. Night of the Hunter was directed by the great actor, Charles Laughton. It is his only credited directorial effort. Also stars Shelly Winters and Lillian Gish. Written by James Agee.

Selected for the Library of Congress' National Film Registry of American Film.
