The Searchers - Special Edition
- 2 Disc Set
John Wayne plays Ethan Edwards, a former Confederate soldier who returns
to his brother Aaron's frontier cabin three years after the end of the
American Civil War. Ethan still has his rebel uniform and weapons, a
large stash of Yankee gold and no explanations as to where he's been
since Lee's surrender. A loner, Ethan also harbors a bitter hatred of
Indians (though he knows their traditions and language well) and trusts
no one but himself. The story takes place in Texas in 1868. There Ethan,
a Confederate veteran, visits his brother and sister-in-law at their
ranch and is horrified when they are killed by Comanches. Ethan's search
for a surviving niece (played by young Natalie Wood) becomes an all-consuming
obsession. With the help of a family friend (Jeffrey Hunter) who is
himself part Cherokee, Ethan hits the trail on a five-year quest for
revenge. Also starring Vera Miles and Ward Bond.
Selected for the Library of Congress' National Film Registry of American
Film.
