The Body Beautiful

Directed by Ngozi Onwurah, this is an exploration of a white mother who undergoes a radical mastectomy, and her black daughter who embarks on a modeling career. It reveals the profound effects of body image and the strain of racial and sexual identity on their charged, intensely loving bond. Onwurah's own mother, Madge, stars in this revealing story of her mother's radical mastectomy and rheumatoid arthritis. In a sauna, when her mother's towel accidentally falls, the daughter sees the looks of rejection in the eyes of the other women.
