Chemical Valley

On December 3, 1984 the worst industrial accident in history occurred when a toxic gas known as MIC leaked from a Union Carbide plant for pesticides in Bhopal, India. Attention was then focused on the town of Institute, West Virginia, a predominately African-American community which is the site of the only Union Carbide plant in the United States that makes MIC. Other surrounding white communties also voice their concerns, and their serious health problems to the Union Carbide Corporation. "Chemical Valley" follows the discussions about safety over a five year period. Scenes from Bhopal are included. Directed by Mimi Pickering and Anne Lewis Johnson.
