Four Lives: Portraits
in Manic Depression

This video sensitively portrays the predicament of those who suffer from this brain disorder which causes erratic mood swings in nearly three million Americans. If untreated, one in six may commit suicide. This film intimately profiles four persons who are being treated for this disease, and we get a rare glimpse into the lives of these patients and their families, as well as the psychiatrists who treat them. Scenes at a support group emphasize the beneficial effect of human understanding.
