Mary
Cassatt: Impressionist from Philadelphia - Currently Unavailable
Traces the life and work of American artist
Mary Cassatt (1844-1926), using period photographs, newspaper clippings,
on-location footage, excerpts
from her letters, and memoirs of her contemporaries, intercut with interviews
with her niece, Mrs. Percy Madeira. Recounts the influence of her upper-class
Philadelphia family; her years in Paris where she studied and painted
alongside Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, and Camille Pissarro; and her relationship
with Degas. Points out that Cassatt was the only American to exhibit in
four major Impressionist shows. Presents examples of her paintings, drawings,
aquatints, and drypoints. The Originals: Women in Art series.
