Winslow Homer: The Nature of the Artist - Currently Unavailable

Art historian John Wilmerding discusses the development of the art of American painter Winslow Homer (1836-1910): the early illustrations of the Civil War, picturesque scenes in the country and at the shore, and the powerful images of nature that characterize his mature work. Shows places identified with his life and work.

Curator's Comments: Interweaves live-action footage and period photographs of Homer's subject matter with his actual paintings to show his development from illustrator to artist. Homer's mature work combined abstractions with representational images.
