Profiles American photographer Annie
Leibovitz (b.ca.1950), whose documents of American popular culture of
the last twenty years have appeared in such magazines as Rolling Stone
and Vanity Fair. Follows her on assignments in Paris, New York,
and Los Angeles, where she talks about her drug addiction and the public's
perception of American politics and popular culture gleaned from her photographs--from
President Nixon's resignation to the final picture of singer John Lennon
before his death. Includes interviews with actress Demi Moore, singer
Mick Jagger, writer Hunter S. Thompson, and magazine editors Tina Brown
and John Wenner. Leibovitz is currently the world's highest-paid photographer
and a celebrity in her own right. South Bank Show series.Curator's Comments: Part One covers her years with Rolling Stone magazine, part two the Vanity Fair years. On-camera interviews include various Rolling Stone personalities: John Wenner, editor; Hunter Thompson, writer; Roger Black, art director; and Mick Jagger. Part Two focuses on her Vanity Fair cover photograph of a pregnant and nude Demi Moore and the surrounding controversy. Interviews Eric Gibson, art critic, Washington Times, and Prof. Leo Braudy, author. Shows setup and photo shoot with Demi Moore. Leibovitz is a compelling subject but this is not an especially penetrating profile. DATE: 1993 COUNTRY: Federal Republic of Germany; Great Britain CREDITS: PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: TOPICS:
