Lee Miller: Through the Mirror - Currently Unavailable

American photographer and artists' model Lee Miller (1907-1977) started as a model in New York, then moved to Paris in the 1930s. There she began her photographic career, while mingling with an artistic community that included Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Man Ray, and Jean Cocteau. During World War II she became a war correspondent. Presents an excerpt from Cocteau's film BLOOD OF A POET (1931), in which Miller appears. Includes commentary from her son Antony Penrose and photographer David Scherman.

Curator's Comments: Engrossing, well-researched profile of the photographer. Provides insight into her life and work yet never entirely dispels the mystery that was always a part of her essence. Her son's disinterested research into her life and work adds an interesting element. Holds interest throughout. Good use of archival material.
